It’s the most wonderful time of the year and a beautiful day for a home tour! I’m so honoured every year to be able to join the Seasonal Simplicity Holiday Home Tours. Sneaking into other people’s homes to see their holiday decorations is one of my favourite things about blogging. Today I’m sharing our red and green Christmas Home Tour of the living room.

If you’re coming from Christina, the DIY Mommy’s, page, then welcome! Enjoy the tour, and don’t forget to head on to the next home after this!

I don’t use a lot of red in my decor in general, so usually my Christmas decor doesn’t include a lot of red either! Last year’s holiday living room, was filled with black, white, and wood. I loved every moment of it!

But my husband missed the traditional Christmas colours. We’ve had a few years without any red Christmas decorations, so when he asked me to please include red this year, I couldn’t say no!

Since we don’t normally decorate with red, I actually had to dig through my closets for some of my old, buried red throw blankets. I also had to visit a few stores to find red ornaments that I actually loved for our tree.

Even though red isn’t my first choice, I am loving having the traditional red and green back in our living room! The pops of colour are really adding something beautiful to the space!

The Fireplace Decor

Modern holiday living room

I added a simple eucalyptus garland to our fireplace this year and let it drape down to one side. I love the way that it highlights the stockings and balances out the bench on the other side of the fireplace.

The variation in stocking designs is one of my favourite parts of the space. You definitely don’t have to have all matching stockings!

Bench Decor for Christmas

This built-in bench always feels like a focal point in the room. Your eye gets drawn into this corner of the room, and the wooden logs add warm to the space.

Nordic Christmas Pillow

I always stack a few pillows and blankets onto this bench to bring in some texture and coziness. It’s primarily a decorative bench, but when my kiddos do crawl up in here, it’s always so cute to see them cuddled in the pillows and blankets!

The Red and Green Christmas Tree

Then we get to the tree! Since we have huge vaulted ceilings, we’re able to put a 9ft tree in our living room without it looking overbearing.

We had to move the couch out and over a bit to put the tree in this spot, but I really wanted to be able to sit in the glow of the Christmas tree while I watched Christmas movies or relaxed in the living room.

Christmas Tree with wrapped gifts

We filled the tree with some red berry stems, some green and blue plaid ribbon, and a variety of Christmas ornaments in red, green and silver.

Variety in ornaments is so crucial to a gorgeous looking tree! Ornaments of different sizes, shapes, patterns, finishes (e.g. matte vs. shiny), and colours leave the eye dancing around the tree for ages, bouncing from one ornament to the next.

Green ribbon in the Christmas tree

I didn’t think I would love the red tree as much as I do. The bright red against the deep green leaves of our faux tree are really beautiful.

In front of the tree we have a very simple coffee table centerpiece. I wanted to bring this all together on a nice wooden tray, but alas, I couldn’t find what I was looking for, so I kept the coffee table simple instead, with just a couple of stems and some reindeer.

Moving to the gift wrap under the tree, I followed the same colour scheme and used red, black, and brown wrapping papers.

Bright Holiday Christmas Tree

Wrapping faux gifts is always fun, but this year I may or may not have wrapped a few real presents under the tree… lol.

It’s way to hard to keep the presents hidden from my husband, so I wrapped them up early instead!

The gifts are all topped with matching tags, ribbons, and wreaths. The mini wreaths were made out of dollar store materials and I love how they look on the gifts!

The final element of the space is the simple Christmas pillow in the corner of our sectional. This view also gives you a sneak peek at the Kitchen decorations that I’ll be showing off next week!

Cozy Office Christmas Decor

On the other side of the couch is our built-in desk. This desk was built into the empty space at the side of the living room, and it one of the most-used seats in the whole house!

You’ll probably notice that there’s not a lot of red on this side of the room… did I mention that I had to buy all new red decor?! lol. I ran out of red and ran out of budget, so this space got more of a “Lindi” look. Luckily is still ties in nicely with the rest of the space.

Modern Black Christmas Trees

The shelves are full of modern decorations that were made using dollar store supplies, including these tall, modern black trees.
