New Years Eve is right around the corner! How are you celebrating? When I was young and single I always went out for New Years. These days I’m feeling a little too old to be out until midnight, lol. Plus I have three children… so a low-key New Years is all we need! Maybe a couple of friends, and obviously some good food. Low-key doesn’t have to mean “boring” though. You know I’m still gonna bring out the black and white decor and make some easy cupcake toppers. Low-key can be beautiful!

These cupcake toppers were inspired by the Martha Stewart Black and White Celebrations Line. I mean, just look at those gorgeous strips and polkadots! This set is screaming “have a New Years party with me!”. It’s one of the many Martha Stewart Celebration Lines that comes with everything from plates and napkins, to banners and confetti, and is exclusively for sale at Michaels. This black and white set has looong been a favourite of mine!
To make the New Years themed cupcake toppers, you also need a Cricut Explore Air 2 Special Edition Martha Stewart Machine Bundle (exclusively sold at Michaels). This machine cuts over 100 materials easily including the Sparkle Paper that I’m using for this project.
Here’s everything you need to make the Cupcake Toppers:
- Cricut Martha Machine
- Gold Sparkle Paper
- Regular Cutting Mat
- Cake Pop Sticks
- Beacon 3-in-1 Glue
- Martha Stewart Black and White Celebration Line Decor
- The Design Space File: HERE.
How to Make New Years Cupcake Toppers:
Start by opening the design space file. Click “Make It” in the top right hand corner, and make sure to select “Sparkle Paper” as your material.
When you’re ready, cut out the designs on your Cricut Martha Machine. When the cutting is done, carefully remove the unneeded sparkle paper and use your Martha Stewart spatula and weeder to carefully remove the words from the cutting mat.
Use small cupcake topper sticks, or cut cake pop sticks in half (like I did here), to attach the words and stars. I used Beacon 3-in-1 glue because it’s super easy to use, dries quickly and doesn’t leave strings or burn your fingers. Hold it in place for a minute or so until the glue sets.
I hope you’re toasting at the end of the night, because these champagne themed cake toppers are expecting some popping, clinking, and fizzing!
I absolutely love how these turned out and how good they look with the black and white decor from the Martha Stewart celebrations line. In less than an hour you have custom party decor!
