Has it been a week already?! This one room challenge seems to be going faster than the rest of them! Last week I shared our design plans for another One Room Challenge. I don’t know where the time is going, but it’s somehow week 3 already, and we still have a LOT of work to do! Here’s what we have tackled so far on this living room one room challenge.
*This post was sponsored by Para Paints. For more information, see my disclosure page.*
If you want to catch up and see our progress, follow the weeks below:
Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4
Week 5 / Week 6 / Week 7 (reveal)
Just as a reminder, here is the space that we started with (above). Our first, and most controversial decision, was to paint all of the walls and the ceiling white!
I wanted everything to be a beautiful crisp white, so I used my favourite white right now, which is White Design (previously Jojo Whitewash) from Para Paints. It’s from my whole home paint colour palette and I LOVE the colour.
How beautiful is this white?! We actually decided to paint the entire house white. Every wall and the large pine vaulted ceiling. There was NO way that I was gonna get up on that scaffolding, so we hired this one out (shocking for us! I know!). We really never hire anyone, mostly because we are too cheap. But this was a must and our painters did an amazing job! The whole home is so bright now. Paint really can make the biggest difference!
And then I made a mistake…. See the top right corner of the above photo… see the different paint colour? I thought I wanted that wall to be a slightly different colour, just slightly beige to add some depth to the wall…
So I asked the painters to paint it in the Artiface colour from Para Paints. Well… here’s proof: bloggers make mistakes. LOL. When the painters were done and they removed all of the tape and equipment I went to the house to see it all. I loved the white so much, but was shocked to see the feature wall had a greenish tinge. I had painted samples on the walls, and put the “beige” and white beside each other … I thought it would be great!
The paint is a beautiful colour, I must say. I will probably use it in my daughter’s bedroom now that I’ve seen how it goes on!
I tried to convince myself that I liked it on this living room wall for about an hour, until I just couldn’t keep up with my act. The conversation with my husband went something like this…
Me: “Ummm….. Nope. I don’t like it”
Hubby: “Whhhhaaaat???”
Me: “I don’t like it. I need it repainted”
Hubby: “What? No! We already paid them! They’re gone! No!”
Me: “Yep. I can’t live like this. I need it painted”
Hubby: “Nope. No way”
Then this went back and forth for an afternoon. Eventually I won, lol. So the scaffolding is still up and our painters are coming back – hopefully this week – and the walls will all be white :) Sorry hubby! Please still love me!
Aside from that one blemish… did you notice the built-up fireplace?! It’s all framed in! We are using the existing fireplace, but we made a custom box for our sound bar and TV. They are a perfect fit.
Then the hubby was busy with a few other projects:
My man was busy changing out all of the traditional moldings for beautiful square modern ones.
They look SO good! Now we just have to do the rest of the house…. lol.
He also ran electrical to add two new sconces on either side of my fireplace. And I’ve picked out the perfect sconces that I’m excited to show you soon ;)
So that’s how far we got! Do you think we can get it all done in three weeks?!
Since I’m an obsessive list-maker, here’s how I’m doing on my living room to-do list:
Figure out a colour scheme for the roomPaint wallsPaint CeilingBuy a couchBuy new accent furniture- DIY some throw pillows
- Build side tables
Build fireplace frame- Tile fireplace
- Build bench beside fireplace
- Make a bench seat

Please share your thoughts! I’d love to hear what you think of our progress!
I love how the fireplace looks so far and cannot wait to see the finished product! Too bad about the paint color, but at least it was easily fixed!
Oh my gosh! What a story! I’m so sorry! Bless that sweet hubby today and forever. Looking forward to seeing your new color. Hang in there, Lindi! Susie from The Chelsea Project
The all-white looks fantastic :) I am sure it really brightens up the entire space. And for the record, I would have done the same thing with the mismatched greenish paint ;) Looking forward to seeing next week’s progress!
Best,
Kelly
All white it the way to go, beautiful!
I am also a V cheap DIYer and would def hire out painting ceilings like that!
Also I took your class at Haven and am excited to re-find you thru the ORC!!
Also to be noted – if I recall correctly, your Husband wasn’t sure on the different color feature wall to start with, that being said the rest of your vision is looking great – your eye for design is spot on (except on one feature wall…) and this room is going to turn out AWESOME!
Love your Husband :)
I’m glad your hubby agreed to have the painters back to redo that section. Hey, happy wife = happy life, right? This is such a big space to cover, I can’t wait to see everything all done. Looks like you guys are making great progress! Can’t wait to see the fireplace all completed.
It looks amazing Lindi! And I totally agree, I’d go for all white too!
I love that you decided to change the color of the ceiling to white – I totally agree with you. We need the rest of our 2-story entry freshened up with some new paint and I told my husband we’re hiring someone, too. I’m with you, there’s no way I am getting up on scaffolding. Can’t wait to see what you all do in the space next!
It’s so clean and bright! I love the white. Excited to see what happens next!
I can already tell this is going to be amazing! It’s looking SO different. Can’t wait to see the finished fireplace.
Good call on painting it all white. Hey, sometimes you don’t know until you try it. Pros still make mistakes (watching Sarah Richardson’s Off the Grid was proof enough for me)!
I love the white! The fireplace is really coming along too
Lol I think my husband and I had that same argument a few years ago the white looks awesome and I can’t wait to see that fireplace!!
Whites and creams are so tricky and unless they are right next to each other you sometimes can miss those undertones. A really good trick I’ve learned to see undertone is to put the white paint chip on a few pages of printer paper. That white though in this space is so lovely and soft, I must hunt down some chips… my poor dark office needs some lovely white. Looking good girl, but that’s no surprise you always knock it outta the park! xo
Hi Lindi!
Painting the ceiling really transformed this space and I can’t wait to see the fireplace develop. You can’t go wrong with white. Although it was a bit of a struggle painting that space over, you will be so glad you did. It kills me when I do that…but am always to glad when I go with my gut.
I laughed out loud reading your conversation about the paint gone wrong. I’m sorry that happened because Holy Cow it’s a huge space but I swear we have all had that conversation of “yeah, I hate it” LOL :D But it really does look great and it’s going to be an awesome room.
Lindi your room is really coming along!! Your fireplace is going to be beautiful…I can’t wait to see how it looks next week!!
It’s looking great so far! And I’m totally with you on repainting that wall, it’s the right move.
That space is going to be amazing. I can not wait until that fireplace is finished, I know it will look fantastic!!
Oh I feel your pain and i can totally picture how that conversation went. Its true, you can’t convince yourself to like a paint color no matter how much you try.
I LOVE white walls!!! Super bummer about the color but hey – its just paint! Fixable!
Love all the white- I’ve been considering painting our all pine sunroom white too and your post may have just convinced me that it’s the way to go!
love that you shared your paint issue. it can truly happen to anyone. Love how light the room is now that you’ve painted it white. beautiful.
It’s looking so good. I actually have my whole main floor painted in the JoJoWhitewash too. Love it.
paint colour mistakes happen to all of us! I’ve made a few myself. I think all white will be better!
Love the white! It’s so bright and fresh! But then that’s no surprise – I’ve yet to come across a PARA colour I didn’t love. That fireplace wall is going to be a showstopper as well. Can’t wait to see it all come together
That room is so grand! I can’t wait to see the final reveal!
I’m so excited to see the result! It’s gonna be great!! Thank you for updating!
The white paint is always the best!
Loved the repainting, it’s beautiful. Can’t wait to see your finished home improvement project. I’m sure it will look gorgeous.
Great project! I cannot wait to see it’s completion. I also agree with the others that the repainting looks much better. Congrats on a job well done!
