Welcome to week four of the One Room Challenge! If you are just joining me for this six week challenge, start here with our Guest Bedroom Design Plans! The challenge, set out by Calling It Home, challenges bloggers to completely redesign a space in only 6 weeks. So far, I’ve set out my design plans, I prepped and painted my room, and I laid down new flooring. Now it’s time to shop!

First… a bedroom update!
Here’s where the room was at the end of last week ^^. Honestly, we haven’t accomplished that much on the actual room this week. Once the floor was down, it was time to start putting the trim back up. Trim work is SOOO time consuming. It’s so hard to spend SO much time on projects in this room that will barely be noticed, but it had to be done. And it had to be done right!
Here’s where we are now. I know it doesn’t look like much, but the trim is in, the trim is sanded, and it’s primed. Phew. Almost there.
The photo below shows the trim in the room before the reno started. It was traditional and showy, and not really a match for our new modern-industrial style. So it had to go.
Our new trim is sleek and modern. The lines are straight and beautiful. I couldn’t be happier with how it all looks!
Then came the blinds…
These old plastic eye sores had to go. My husband was sure that we could still use them (bless his cheap dutch soul), but I squashed his plans. I really don’t like them at all, and I couldn’t wait to replace them!
I wanted something that wouldn’t be very expensive (good-bye beautiful bamboo shades….), that would let a lot of light in (ahem.. basement bedroom), and something that would look great on its own. There are NO curtains being added to this window.
Our local store, Sheer Illusions, came to the rescue! The staff pointed me to these beautiful faux wood blinds, They are the right price, they look great, and they come in a ton of shades. Perfect!
After reviewing all of the colour options, we decided to go with Walnut. I love the colour on its own and against our new paint colour.
I also love the contrast of the new blinds against the flooring and other wood elements in the room. I love mixing different stains and metals into the same room. Don’t be afraid to add new colours!!
Can’t wait to hang these beautiful blinds from Sheer Illusions!
Although it doesn’t seem like I did much this week… I DID manage to get some shopping done!! I found a few affordable modern bedroom decor pieces that will be on display in a couple of weeks when the room is ready! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
In the meantime, shop for yourself! Enjoy :)

Wish us a productive week ahead!
OH Wow! I love all the choices! I trim with the ledge is really nice for decorating! So much you can do with that, can’t wait to see the final outcome. Love the blue print on the pillow, I’m going with that color.
Thanks
Maria
It’s coming together! I love how much more modern the new trim makes the space feel!
The trim looks great with your guest bedroom space, Lindi. It fits the industrial look you’re going for and looks so beautiful and clean with the crisp lines. Good luck getting the rest done in the next two weeks. You can do it!!
If you want help with getting anything finished let me know. :)
The new trim looks amazing and those walnut blinds are going to be the perfect contrast!
Looks wonderful! I haven’t done my builds yet, either…crossing fingers for both of us!
Oh boy do I wish that fancier blinds were within our ORC budget! Your choice looks lovely. We went with nicer blinds in our bedroom and they really make a difference. Sadly, baby will have to make do with the el-cheapo version for now. ;-) The trim looks fantastic!
The new blinds are going to look great. Your shopping picks are all so pretty. I can’t wait to see next weeks progress.
Wow you are really making some progress! Loving the new blinds. Everything is looking so fresh!
Wow, it’s looking amazing! It’s funny what a difference a little change in trim can make. And those blinds are going to be great!
The floor and paint look great! Love the direction this is going.
Your trim looks really nice. Those faux-wood blinds are great. The walnut color you chose is beautiful. I’m convinced – I have to rip the plastic (vinyl) mini-blind out of the window in my guest room, too! I can’t believe that thing has been there since we moved in almost seven years ago. I really neglected the guest room! I’m going shopping just as you suggested!
This room is coming along so well! I think those blinds will be perfect… I actually think I might have those same ones on the main floor of our house :) Good luck! I know. So much to do, so little time…
Beautiful and love the blinds! We have those cheap ones too because it was too expensive for our tight budget when we moved in (there are 24 windows in the house!). Can’t wait to replace them someday.
I love your pillows on your Mood Board-those little details make all of the difference! Great job and can’t wait to see the finished space!
The trim on the pony wall . . . I assume it’s two pieces. Could you give some details? You’ve done such as great job that it looks like one! I have the same kind of wall in the guest room in our basement but it’s never been trimmed and I want to do that. What you did is exactly the look I had in mind.
