One Room Challenge {Week Five}: DIY Decor

One Room Challenge Week 5

Welcome to week five of the amazing One Room Challenge!  This six week challenge, hosted by Calling It Home, is encouraging bloggers to completely redecorate a room in their homes in only six short weeks! My husband is helping me tackle my daughter’s Big Girl (aka “Toddler”) bedroom, and so far it’s been an adventure! This week we tackled some DIY decor by completing a gallery wall and building a side table for our daughter’s bedroom.

If you want to catch up, here are the links:

This week was all about my little girl’s gallery wall.
I love that when I look around her room, I see personal touches everywhere. I specifically designed the art in her gallery so that it would fit that theme too. I made all the art myself [several tutorials to coming up on the blog!] and had a lot of fun doing it! The whole gallery wall only took a few evenings to put together :)

Choosing the layout was the hardest part, but as you can see in the photo above, we laid out all of the photos on my daughter’s new shag rug, and rearranged until we found a layout we liked. My toddler was obviously extremely helpful with this process…. lol. Well, at least it was cute to watch her admire the art pieces!

And then there was the pièce-de-résistance: her side table!

I am SO proud of this little white & gold hexagon masterpiece. It was designed and built by my husband and so perfectly screams my style! I pinky swear that there will be a tutorial on the blog in the coming weeks; with designs included! For now, I’m just standing back to admire the piece :)

Unfortunately, the fabric for my sewing projects still hasn’t arrived – some sort of shipping issue :( So it looks like we won’t have new curtains, duvets, or pillows for the big reveal next week. That only leaves us with a bookshelf to finish, and some set-up and decorating! I can see the finish line my friends!

Here’s how we’re doing with our lengthy six week “to-do” list:

  • Paint walls (including closet walls)
  • Paint baseboards, main door, and closet doors
  • Paint stencil feature wall
  • Purchase and install closet organizer
  • Cut, install, and paint crown moulding
  • Find thrifted dresser and re-paint/re-design it
  • Find thrifted mirror to re-paint
  • Purchase and assemble bunk bed
  • Find/make pastel accessories
  • Sew curtains
  • Sew duvet cover, pillow cases, and throw pillow covers
  • Find light fixture
  • Create art work for DIY gallery wall
  • Find a chair for her/me to read in
  • Find rugs for space
  • Make DIY bedroom hooks
  • Possible DIY night stand
  • Possible DIY bookshelf
