Remember this inspiration board?!
I shared the plans for my Gold & Sage Master Bedroom a few weeks ago, and I’m here today to give you a quick update on how the room has been coming along!
Just to remind you… here’s our dull Master Bedroom space before our makeover started.
It’s dark, and cramped, and boring.
We are part way through our master bedroom update and I couldn’t be more excited about the progress! We are moving to lighter and brighter (despite having to keep dark furniture…), and we are doing it all on a budget!
The first thing we wanted to tackle was the paint. So EVERYTHING had to leave the room. Now I was thinking, throw a layer of paint on the wall… maybe two. Takes a couple nights. Right?!
Wrong. My practical husband reminded me that this was the best time to paint EVERYTHING. And so we did. Ceilings. Baseboards. Window frames. Doors. Walls. They are ALL fresh and beautiful!
The picture below shows how bright the new Behr Cotton Knit paint is compared to our old beige walls. The space feels soooo different already!
Next, we purchased the much-needed wardrobe from Ikea. Now… we do already have a walk-in closet… but it that really enough space for two people?!? Including a wife with two full sets of clothes (pregnant and not-pregnant, lol). Turns out it’s not enough space for us. Enter wardrobe for the husband. It looks exactly like this:
Then… my handy husband couldn’t have a wardrobe just sitting there… so he did what every handy husband does, and built a DIY bulkhead to fill in the space between the wardrobe and the vaulted ceilings. He framed, drywalled, and puttied everything before we started the painting process.
Here’s a sneak peak… not gonna lie… it looks amazing without the flyers and painters tape!
Once the painting was done, we got started on the wallpapering. We have a BEAUTIFUL textured wallpaper from Graham & Brown. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t intimidated by this step, but I’m telling you, this was the EASIEST wallpaper install EVER!!
We slapped up the entire large, vaulted feature wall in 2.5 hours while our daughter napped! True story. My grandma’s jaw dropped when I told her. This is the future of wallpaper! I cannot wait to share a more detailed tutorial with you when the wall is all done! Here’s another sneak peak for now…
Here’s my initial Master Bedroom to do list:
(with finished projects crossed off!)
Wall paper the feature wall with Graham & Brown Labyrinth printPaint walls with Cotton Knit Behr paint- Paint bedside tables with Green Tide Chalk Culture paint
- Find/thrift some old picture frames and paint them with Green Tide Chalk Culture paint
Buy a rug for the roomBuy and build an Ikea wardrobe- Purchase a chair for the window
- Make window coverings
- Buy fabric and sew pillow covers
- Make a DIY mirror
- Find/thrift some metallic accessories to decorate
Find, thrift, make or purchase something (art? frame?) to fill up our huge feature wall behind the bed (ideas please!)- Add some candles :)
Additions to the initial list:
Paint ceiling, baseboards, window frames and doorsMake Bulkhead to go above new wardrobe- Print photos to fill frames
- Find lighting to replace bulky lamps on side tables?
- Find or knit a throw for the bed
If you’re wondering… here’s my immediate next step. We are painting and revamping these Ikea bedside tables to add some colour to the room!
What do you think of our progress so far?
{xoxo}
LOVE how it’s coming along! SO light and bright!
Thank you so much!! I’m loving it too :)
What do I think of the progress…amazing!! Your to-do list is lengthy but you’ve carved out a good chuck of it already and it’s looking great so far. Such a good idea to put that wardrobe where you did, very practical and will save a lot of space. Can’t wait to see the finished project!! (And if you need any help when I’m there I would love to pitch in :)
Thanks!! It’s coming along nicely :) and you’re right! We have knocked a good amount off the lost already!!
The room is looking great – and the wallpaper looks fabulous!!
Thank you!! We are SUPER happy with it!!
I love it! The accent wall looks amazing!! Also I’m so jealous of your own walk in closet :) maybe I can convince Zach to put some wardrobes in for himself…. ;)
Hahaha. Took a lot of convincing :) and thanks! We’re super happy with the wall too!
Your master bedroom is looking really good. Isn’t it amazing what a fresh, new coat of paint can do for a room. I look forward to seeing your progress and the final outcome. Thanks for sharing.
I came over on the Much Ado About Nothing Monday. Glad to find your site.
Hope you have a wonderful day~
Blessings,
Melanie
Thank you SO much for stopping by! I’m super happy with the progress too :)
Your bedroom is looking great! The color scheme is soothing, and the wallpaper is gorgeous. :)
Thank you so much! I’m thrilled with how well it’s going :)
I’m loving your wallpaper! It’s ever so pretty. I’d like to borrow your handy husband too, mine is good with computers but not so much with the DIY projects.
Haha. I don’t know what I’d do without him! He’s SO handy. I’m a lucky lady!
