Master Bathroom Renovation {Week 3}: Choosing Faucets and Fixtures

Choosing faucets and fixtures for a modern bathroom. Sharing great tips, tricks, and tutorials as we complete our master bathroom ensuite renovation! LOVE the modern, chic design plans!

We are officially in week three of our bathroom renovations! Which we were hoping would also mean that we were half way through the reno… but it’s looking like we still have a long way to go! We’re in that stage of renovations where all of the behind-the-scenes magic happens. We finished the demo last week, and now we are plugging away at replacing drywall, moving drains, and re-wiring electrical. Since that’s all pretty boring, I thought I’d switch gears this week and share some of my thought processes while choosing faucets and fixtures for the space.

Things to consider when choosing faucets, tiles, and fixtures in your new bathroom! Love this modern design!

Week 1 / Week 2 / Week 3 / Week 4
Week 5 / Week 6 / Week 7 / Week 8
Week 9 / Week 10 (Final Reveal!)

I’m gonna let you all in on a secret… the entire reason that we wanted to renovate the bathroom, was to get our dream shower. Dream shower to us meant more spacious (perhaps even room for two people at the same time!), tiled and dreamy faucets.

Once we had renovated the closet, we finally had the space to make our dream shower. So how did we choose fixtures?! Originally I had my eye of gorgeous matte black ones, like this collection from Brizo, but affordable modern, matte black faucets are really hard to come by, so we jumped off the matte black train and landed in this beautiful chrome collection. I love the square, sleek design of everything – so we picked out our favourite shower head, body jets and rain head, because… dream shower.

When it came to the sink, we found one great affordable matte black faucet and jumped at the chance to use it! I hummed and hawed about it briefly, wondering if I could mix my chromes and matte blacks, but quickly decided that I definitely could, and that it will make a huge, gorgeous impact in the space!

Then it came time to look at fixtures. The toilet was an easy choice! My only concerns were that it was sleek in design, and had a concealed drain. This toilet was perfect! No more spending 20 minutes trying to clean around those drains!

Some people said I didn’t need a tub. They’re kind of right… I could easily have gotten rid of it, and created a new little nook in my bedroom under the big window. But I love soaking in the tub! It’s one of the only times I can really turn my brain off. So we will have to live with a beautiful shower and a tub in our master ensuite retreat.

I picked out this beautiful standing tub filler, to match all our other faucets. Then when it came to the tub, I needed a freestanding tub to save some space in the bathroom, and really wanted a sleek modern design. Something with beautiful square edges, but still big enough and deep enough to enjoy. Enter gorgeous freestanding tub!

The last fixture decision we had to make was our sinks. We already had two countertop sinks, and you can’t go from two to one! lol. So we needed to keep the his and hers. Also, to me, modern means vessel sinks – no more undermount. Staying with the same sleek, square designs that flow through this bathroom, we choose these rectangular vessel sinks. Just imagine these sinks, with matte black faucets behind them and subway tile up the wall…. heavenly! Right now it’s all a dream in my head. Let’s hope the vision becomes a reality soon!

Oh! And one last quick decision… did I mention I wanted to paint?! Originally we were going to leave the beige walls. But I decided that the beige was too beige. I just couldn’t get on board… choosing whites is hard though! They all look the same, yet different. and they DEFINITELY look different on the walls than they do on the paint chip!

We ended up deciding on Behr frost paint. White that will look gorgeous with grey and black!

What do you think of our choices? What would you have done differently?
