Christmas is in full force here. Did you see our Christmas mantel?! I’m cuddled in front of it under a blanket as I write this. Fireplace on. Warm tea beside me. Perfection. But I’m taking a break from these lovely inspiring Christmas posts to share a super simple DIY build plan with you! Waaaaay back when we renovated our guest bedroom, we had dreams of building a coat rack for them. Well…we finally got our butts in gear and did it! You won’t believe the little secret we used to make those hooks!

The industrial coat rack
We put this piece in our guest room, but it would look perfect in a front entryway (if only we had the space!) or a mudroom too. We wanted something sleek that still gave off an industrial vibe—so we combined wood and steel into the perfect coat rack! I used a dark walnut stain by Minwax for the wood and a gloss black spray paint for the metal. I LOVE the combination of that beautiful stain against the black metal!
We thought about adding a shelf to this piece, but decided instead to slip a mail slot into the back. It’s hidden, but still functional. The perfect place to set down your paperwork.
The hooks are the best part. We actually just made pocket holes with our jig and glued the pipe right into the holes! Genius! I know!
