Need a holiday party idea? This easy Hot Chocolate Bar is complete with creamy hot chocolate and all your favourite toppings. Your guest will love this!
Well, we decided to do something new for a Christmas party we were hosting at our place this year :)
We made a very delicious, crock-pot, creamy, hot chocolate, and provided a plethora of (adult) drinks and treats for our guests to flavour and decorate their own drinks. Check our our Hot Chocolate Bar!
Obviously a hot chocolate bar must start with delicious hot chocolate :)
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whipping cream
- 1 (14 oz) can of sweetened condensed milk
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 4 cups milk
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
I doubled this recipe and it just fit inside my crock pot :)
Combine everything and cook on low for 2 hours (or longer if you double it). Whisk it every 30 minutes to an hour to make sure the chocolate chips are getting melted and mixed in.
I made tags for each of the toppings I provided, with cute little washi tape designs on them. It’s so simple to do, and adds that extra touch that pulls everything together.
The toppings I provided:
- Chocolate chips
- Toffee bits
- White chocolate chips
- Mini marshmallows
- Peppermint sticks
- Cinnamon sticks
- Chocolate stir sticks
- Hazelnut/chocolate sticks’
- Whipping Cream
- Red and green sprinkles
- Caramel flavouring
If it’s an adult party… you can also provide these options for your hot chocolate bar:
- Peppermint Schnapps
- Baileys
- Amarula
- Frangelico
- Kahlúa
Then, enjoy a steaming cup of creamy deliciousness :)
Oh, and get ready, because you WILL be asked for this recipe! Guests went back for seconds (despite how sweet and filling it is) because they enjoyed this hot chocolate bar so much! Having a holiday bar adds that extra bit of cheer to your Christmas party, and it’s so simple to do.

I am having a christmas party tomorrow and I cant wait to try this. It will top of the ugly christmas sweater contest…oh MY!
Enjoy! I’m sure it’ll be a huge hit!
I know this is an older post, but I just came across it and would like to try it this Christmas, but I have a question. In your recipe, you state 2 cups whipping cream…is this already whipped or still in liquid form as I can see it going either way?
It’s in liquid form :) You can still add whipped cream on top though if you want!
I am having a late Christmas party for work and would like to make this and double it like you did. What size is the crock pot you used>
Hey! My crock pot holds 6 quarts – and it was almost overflowing! Hope you enjoy it!
Love your Hot Chocolate bar!

Thanks Shirley!! I promise if you make this, you won’t regret it!!
I love this idea, and plan on using it for my holiday party. Where did you find the chocolate stirrers, or did you make them.
I got the stirrers at the Bulk Barn (a bulk candy store). I think that they may hold them in some grocery stores too. I hope you enjoy the hot chocolate bar!
I gave the Hot Chocolate Bar to my staff as a present. I used your recipe ,and it got rave reviews!!! Thanks for sharing it with everyone.
Awesome!!! I’m SO glad you used it and loved it!! Thank you so much for sharing!
I know this is an old post, but how did you make, or where did you get the chocolate stir sticks?
Thank you,
Lori
I bought them at the Bulk Barn! They were super cheap! I’ve also seen them at winners. I think some grocery stores have them too, called “Pocky” sticks. Hope that helps!
Hello! If I double the recipe, how many servings will it be approximately? I’m thinking of doing this at work but not sure if I want to double it or do 1.5 :)
I’m not sure about the exact serving size, but I doubled it and it was more than enough for my work party!
